Here in So-Cal, our winters are pretty mild so forgive…
Dry, Winter Air Got You Down? Try These Winter Hair Care Tips
Winter is back and that means your hair is going to need a pick-me-up. Your hair needs moisture to survive, and all that dry, cold air isn’t doing your luscious locks any favors. You might notice that your scalp is itchier than normal or that your hair is basically a frizz ball every time you take off a hat. But winter doesn’t have to be a waking nightmare. You can keep the frizz at bay by locking in as much moisture as possible. Include these winter hair care tips into your new daily routine.
Keep It Cool
Everyone loves a hot shower, except your hair. Exposing your already vulnerable hair to hot water strips away all those natural oils that keep your hair strong, healthy, and shiny. Stick with cool or lukewarm water when you’re washing your hair and try to dry it off with a towel as best you can. The hot, blustery air from your blow dryer can be another death trap for your hair. Give yourself enough time in the morning so you can avoid the blow dryer as much as possible.
Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize
You simply can’t moisturize your hair enough when everything else seems to be working against you. Products like Ovation Hair’s Moisturizing Conditioner, Moisture Therapy Shampoo and other similar products designed to boost moisture will be your first line of defense against the cold. Regardless of what brand or products you use, focus on moisturizing your hair rather than over-styling it with gels and sprays.
Maintain a Healthy Diet
Don’t forget to watch what you eat. Your diet will either make or break your hair this winter. Depriving your body of moisture, vitamins, minerals and lean protein will only make matters worse. Eat chicken or fish and plenty of fruits and vegetables over the next few months. Those hearty nutrients will slowly trickle up to your scalp. If drinking is your go-to, especially around the holidays, make sure that you’re drinking plenty of water to balance things out. Add a Dash of Honey
As strange as it might sound, honey moisturizes your hair naturally. Open a jar of your favorite top-shelf honey, not the syrupy cheap stuff, and carefully massage it into your scalp. With the honey evenly applied, cover your hair with a shower cap and let it sit for about 30 minutes. Finally, wash out the honey with cool or lukewarm water. Your hands will be sticky by the end of it, but your hair will be eternally grateful.
Keep Calm and Carry On
So, you’re in a rush and your hair is refusing to cooperate. What else is new? Instead of poking, pulling and prying your hair into submission, take a deep breath and give your hair some breathing room. Your hair is already in a pinch, so instead of making matters worse, use a wide-toothed comb or brush and take your time detangling your hair. Slowly sort through the strands one at a time and stay away from the straightener. Keep your hair trim and try to avoid tangles the natural way.
Don’t let winter push you around. Stock up on winter hair care products from Ovation Hair this holiday season and get that silky-smooth look you’ve been craving.
