Red Carpet Hair Alert from the 2015 Video Music Awards (VMAs)

Red Carpet Hair Alert from the 2015 Video Music Awards (VMAs)

I watched the red carpet for the 2015 VMAs for two reasons: to witness Miley Cyrus’ shenanigans and to get a glimpse of the celebrity hair alerts! Aside from some flamboyant appearances (i.e. Miley Cyrus), celebrity style took on an unpretentious yet stunning flair this year. An A-list celebrity stylist team is not required for any of the looks coming to you this fall:

Curled coifs grace the red carpet!

Hey Curlfriend!

In my humble opinion, curls run the world- and the red carpet! Kat Graham’s show stopping wavy lob paid homage to traditional Hollywood glamour. FKA Twigs’ unruly natural curl and all-encompassing rocker style are a perfect match. And Selena Gomez’s thick and full curls filled me with hair envy- as usual! Achieve any of these styles by keeping your hair hydrated and using a firm yet flexible finishing spray after styling your hair.

VMA Bangs

Bang bang, baby!

Less was more on the VMAs red carpet this year. Nicki Minaj’s look was soft and mysterious, with bangs hiding brows and long, straight hair. Taylor Swift rocked her signature short strands with a swept bang.  Want the look? You’ll need a flat iron, smoothing brush, and your favorite hair spray. Fierce cat eye is optional but highly recommended.

Straight Outta H20

Straight Outta Water

It isn’t hard to tell why the reemerging wet look is trending on the red carpet. It’s edgy, sexy, and easy as all get out to do. Demi Lovato’s hair maintained its glossiness throughout the evening, while Kim Kardashian’s mane was pulled back and hanging down to there. Do you have straight hair? Apply mousse to damp locks and brush it back. Don’t feel left out, curlfriends. You can also try this style with slick sides, waves for days, or clumped curls.
